Good old times – Can you read my pokerface?

Poker Chips

How good were these times, where you had time to play poker with some friends. You were sitting on a round table, with good drinks and several laughters, just having a good and fun time. Sometimes we even could not beware our pokerface and everybody knew if we had good or bad cards. Today we don´t have to care about our pokerface anymore because face-to-face playing has become a rarity. The reason for that is our busy lifestyle. There is often no time for longer periods to play.

The good news: PokerStars has developed an innovative solution for this dilemma. Duel as a mobile game perfectly fits in our hectic lifestlye without having to give up playing our beloved poker game. Duel is a one-on-one, turn-based poker app and grants independency and restricts the playing time. On top, you do not have to care about your pokerface anymore.

Duel is a game that serves „people who want a form of poker that fits into their busy lifestyle: players who want to be able to challenge friends at their convenience, in addition to traditional forms of poker which might require longer periods of time to play,” PokerStars said in the press release.

Duel is a play for two players and is only offered for mobile phones. You can choose whether you want to play against a friend or a random play partner. Moreover, it is possible to play for toy or real money. If you play for toy money, ten hands are played. For real money, the amount of hands increases to 20.

The action of the game runs as follows: Each player starts with 500 chips. You watch your cards, make a bet and wait. The opponent is on the move and acts whenever it suits him. The process will be repeated until the number of hands runs out. The one with the more chips, has won the game.

Another important innovation is the general time limit of three days per game. Nobody really has to be worried of not succeeding in finishing the game. Thus more games at once can be played without having time pressure. Assuming that you are sitting in the bus, you can easily challenge an opponent and stop playing when you have reached your destination. This feature appeals to people that like to engage with the app on their own time. Thereby, players can easily integrate the app in their daily habit.

“I love being able to play it so easily,” 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker. “It fits easily into my hectic life since I can pick up, and put down, anytime I want! It also manages to represent the depth of poker that I love.”
